Florida v Ashley Benefield

Ashley Benefield was attempting to move out of state, away from her estranged husband, Doug Benefield.  While helping Ashley move out of their shared home, a fight escalated.  Doug was shot in the arm and the leg, and soon after, he died from his injuries.  Ashley Benefield claimed self-defense, pointing to fear for her safety in that moment. She claimed many past instances of marital discord that led her to believe she was in danger.  The custody and safety of their one child was at issue, as well.​​​
